A 100-page handwriting workbook for adult English speakers learning to write Greek — the forms you will meet in Athens today and the ones you will meet in a Loeb. Thirty-two lessons cover all 24 letters in both cases, the final sigma, three variant letterforms a reader meets in print and the lunate sigma they meet on stone, and every accent in both the monotonic and the polytonic systems — 53 stroke diagrams in all, 33 of them numbered. Each lesson is a spread: the left page shows the letter with a start dot and a numbered arrow for every stroke, then the same letter again for each stroke with the marks building up in order; the right page is ruled practice that moves trace → dot-start → free and, from Lesson 9 on, finishes on a real Greek word. Every letter also carries what it sounds like now and what it sounded like in the fifth century BC. A provenance page states plainly that Greek has no official stroke-order standard, cites the study of 756 schoolchildren that recorded up to thirty-one ways of writing one letter, and labels every sequence in the book with where it came from.
