The standard

Books that show their evidence

Myths, games and puzzles are easy to get wrong and hard to check. Our aim is to make them the other way round.

  1. Sources named

    A myth is only as good as the person who wrote it down. Our reference books say who that was, when, and what writing it down did to the story.

  2. Evidence on the page

    Where a reference book states something, it shows the evidence, so a reader can check the claim instead of trusting it.

    Our editions of the old game classics keep what the author observed apart from what he concluded or supplied, so the evidence can be read apart from the theory.

What we believe

Four ideas the press and its storefront are built to protect. Break any one of them and it stops being the thing it's supposed to be.

  • You own what you buy

    A direct download belongs to you — open it on any device you own, read it offline, and still have it ten years from now, even if we're gone.

  • No locks, one honest mark

    No DRM and no required app. Each download carries a small licence line in the page footer with your name and order, so a leaked copy can be traced. That is the only mark on it.

  • Evidence on the page

    Our reference books name their sources and show their evidence, so a reader can check a claim instead of taking our word for it.

  • Your privacy matters

    We don't track you across the web and we never sell your data. We collect what we need to deliver your books and, if you ask for them, our emails — nothing more.

Transparency

Who built it

Valice Press is run by Emre Doğan as a sole proprietor — a serious one-person project, built in the open. Every architectural decision is documented in the behind-the-scenes posts, and every editorial direction in the reading guides.

Emre Doğan writes about the stories that cultures tell themselves in order to keep going.

Trained as a software engineer, he came to mythology the way most people do — through a single story that would not leave him alone — and stayed for the pattern underneath. CODEX MYTHOLOGICA, his first book, gathers seventy-six myths from nineteen traditions and retells each one in full.

The press also makes its own editions of public-domain classics. The typesetting, introductions, notes and indexes are ours; the historical texts themselves are in the public domain, and each book names its source and translator.

Where we sell a download directly, checkout runs through Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record — they process the card and handle the tax owed in your jurisdiction, so we never touch your payment details. The file is then added to your library: a plain PDF, yours to download or read in the browser.
